Welcome to the Outwood English Hub!

We are proud to have been appointed as a national English Hub. We take a leading role in supporting schools in the teaching of early reading and phonics.

Outwood Primary Academy Lofthouse Gate was named as the lead Hub School by the Department for Education and works as part of the Outwood Institute of Education

Outwood English Hub offers a range of high quality development opportunities for teachers and leaders in the below areas:

• Developing excellence in phonics teaching
• Promoting a love of reading
• Language and vocabulary development

Our aim is to support primary school leaders to evaluate their teaching of early reading to improve outcomes for all children, especially in Reception and Year 1, and for older pupils who have not yet mastered the foundations of reading.

To support schools in achieving their early reading goals, we can offer funding of up to £6,000 for phonics training and resources to deliver one of the Department for Education’s validated phonics programmes with fidelity and rigour in the following regions:

• Selby
• Wakefield
• Goole
• Harrogate
• Hull

Our team of Hub Leads and Literacy Specialist are highly trained to support schools in meeting expectations for teaching early reading as set out in the national curriculum programmes of study, the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage and Ofsted’s education inspection framework.
