Exchange Teaching Hub is funding a series of focused professional development events for teachers and leaders of science across Yorkshire and the Humber.
This session will focus on Physics. There will be an emphasis on enhancing subject knowledge for those who might be looking to improve their understanding in this particular area of science, those new to teaching science, or more experienced teachers interested in the development of new ideas.The emphasis will be to build confidence by considering a selection of physics ideas; those where misconceptions arise or where describing the scientific concepts is a challenge.
By the end of this session, you will have:
• Considered a selection of ideas where misconceptions may arise
• Thought about ways to describe challenging scientific concepts
• Tried a variety of activities which can be used within your lesson structure.
Facilitator name: Alison Watts
Alison’s background is in science, specifically physics and mathematics. She previously taught science for 30 years holding posts as Head of Physics, KS3 Coordinator and Head of Science, before moving on to senior leadership roles. During this time, she accumulated a wealth of experience in those areas which are of concern to many schools.
She currently works to support the delivery of CPD as part of the Science Learning Partnership Network, delivering many bespoke CPD sessions in schools across the region. She is the Education Improvement Partner for two Science Learning Partnerships – South and East Yorkshire and also Derby and Nottinghamshire as part of STEM Learning Ltd.
