Are you a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School that takes a Teaching for Mastery approach? Are you keen to develop your own confidence?
This Work Group is intended to improve the confidence and competence of secondary teaching assistants who support students who are learning mathematics through a Teaching for Mastery approach.
This programme is designed for secondary teaching assistants who are supporting maths, and who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths.
For this Work Group, centrally designed resources will be used in local face to face groups. Venue to be confirmed.
As a secondary teaching assistant, you will get the opportunity to participate in sessions designed to enhance your subject knowledge alongside becoming familiar with the 5 Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery.
During these sessions you will engage with a range of materials including NCETM Checkpoints. You will be expected to put your learning into practice with small groups and/or individuals and/or when supporting individuals in class and to reflect upon outcomes as part of the Work Group.
Participants will:
review their practice as a result of the sessions and make specific adaptations to support the pupils they are working with.
The Secondary Teaching Assistants Work Group is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
