
The YTCA SCITT has a highly successful track record of developing outstanding teachers. We are a small SCITT which allows us to personalise training for each trainee, as well as offer excellent training and placement opportunities within our established and dedicated Partner Schools.
We offer two routes to achieving Qualified Teacher Status: The School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) Route and the Assessment Only Route.
On our SCITT Route, we offer:
- 5-11 primary and 11-16/11-18 secondary programmes.
- Academic Tutorials let by our Lead Practitioner to support trainees to engage in important academic research linked to different areas of learning and teaching.
- High-quality workshop training sessions delivered by practising teachers who are skilled and experienced experts in their field.
- Experienced school-based mentors who are rigorously trained, have had input into the development of the programme and have comprehensive knowledge of our curriculum.
- At least two school placements with experiences in other specialised educational settings.
- Bespoke curriculum/subject knowledge training from our Subject Champions.
- Access to Subject Specific resources such as Subject Associations and NASBTT Subject Networks.
- Excellent pastoral care, well-being training and support.
- One-to-one personalised support from in-school Mentors/Link Tutors.
- A PGCE led by Sheffield Hallam University.
- A two-day Youth Mental Health First Aid training course.
- Support with finding school employment through our programme’s highly commended Employability strand as well as ongoing guidance once qualified.
